Enhancement Request – Support for Replicating Compressed Sybase ASE Tables in HVR
Our Sybase ASE environment contains tables that use compression, and we would like to replicate these tables through HVR. We understand that HVR currently does not support capture from Sybase ASE tables using basic compression, which prevents us from replicating these tables.
Business Requirement
Compression is an important part of our Sybase ASE storage strategy, and we do not want to disable or redesign compression simply to enable replication.
The current limitation means that we cannot achieve complete replication coverage for our Sybase ASE environment. We may therefore need to exclude affected tables or implement additional workarounds.
We would like HVR to provide native support so that compressed tables can be replicated in the same way as non-compressed tables.
Expected Functionality
Ideally, we would like HVR to support:
- Log-based capture of INSERT, UPDATE and DELETE operations on compressed tables.
- Initial refresh of compressed tables.
- Compare functionality for compressed tables.
- Correct handling of compressed table and column metadata.
- Consistent replication behaviour between compressed and non-compressed tables.
- Support for the relevant Sybase ASE compression types and supported ASE versions.
Scope Clarification
If supporting all compression mechanisms is not immediately possible, we would appreciate clarification on what could be supported initially.
In particular, support for:
- Basic/page-compressed tables
- Compressed LOB data, including TEXT, IMAGE and UNITEXT
would provide significant value.
It would also be helpful for HVR documentation to clearly state which Sybase ASE compression types, datatypes and ASE versions are supported.
Business Impact
This limitation currently prevents us from fully onboarding our Sybase ASE environment into HVR.
Supporting compressed tables would allow us to:
- Replicate our existing Sybase ASE environment without changing the database storage configuration.
- Avoid excluding compressed tables from replication.
- Reduce the need for custom workarounds.
- Achieve more complete replication coverage using HVR.
