Apple Search Ads — support countryOrRegion as a breakdown on keyword-level and ad-level reports
Connector: Apple Search Ads
Schema: fivetran_apple_search_ads (connector ID: logarithmic_unsalted)
Related ticket: 406323
WHAT WE'RE ASKING FOR
The ability to sync Apple Search Ads keyword-level and ad-level report data grouped by countryOrRegion — one row per keyword (or ad) per country per day, with spend, impressions, taps and installs attributed to that country by Apple.
Either delivery form works for us:
- a country_or_region dimension on keyword_report and ad_level_report, or
- separate country-grouped tables alongside the existing ones.
Important distinction: we need metrics grouped by countryOrRegion at report level, not the campaign's targeting configuration propagated down to keyword and ad rows. Fivetran Support confirmed (ticket 406323) that the existing campaign-level country_or_region reflects targeting configuration rather than where spend was delivered. A targeting-derived column on keyword_report would not solve our problem — multi-country campaigns would carry a multi-country label on every row and the spend would still be unsplittable.
USE CASE
We report paid acquisition spend against revenue on a per-country basis, at keyword and creative level, to decide where to allocate budget and which keywords and creatives to scale or cut in each market.
Every other paid channel we run supports this today. Google Ads, TikTok and Pinterest all expose spend by country at ad-group or ad level, and your connectors for those channels let us configure custom reports for exactly this breakdown. Apple Search Ads is the only gap in our reporting.
CURRENT STATE AND WHY THE WORKAROUND IS INSUFFICIENT
keyword_report and ad_level_report have no country dimension. The only country data in the schema is country_or_region, keyed by campaign.
Building on that gets us to roughly 50% coverage. Campaigns targeting a single country can be attributed by inference. Campaigns targeting several countries cannot be split at all, because the campaign-level data does not say how the spend divided between them. Approximately half of our Apple Search Ads spend sits in multi-country campaigns.
The only workaround available to us is to restructure our Apple account into single-country campaigns. That would mean fragmenting our campaign structure purely to satisfy a reporting limitation — splitting budgets, bids and learning signals across many more campaigns, which degrades campaign performance and materially increases management overhead.
BUSINESS JUSTIFICATION
- Roughly [X] per month of Apple Search Ads spend currently cannot be attributed to a country below campaign level.
- We cannot calculate per-country ROAS for Apple, so Apple is excluded from the cross-channel, per-market budget allocation we run for every other channel. Spend on Apple is effectively managed with less information than spend everywhere else.
- This is our only remaining blocker to a complete per-country paid acquisition model in the warehouse.
- The alternative for us is to pull the Apple Search Ads keyword-level report outside the managed connector, which duplicates work Fivetran already does and reduces the value of the managed connector for our team.
WHY THIS SHOULD BE A SMALL CHANGE
Apple's Reporting API appears to support this at the levels we need. The keyword-level report endpoint (POST /reports/campaigns/{campaignId}/keywords) accepts groupBy: ["countryOrRegion"], and the reporting endpoints share a common request shape across campaign, ad group, keyword and ad level. Fivetran already issues the campaign-level report with countryOrRegion grouping.
On our reading this is a connector-side gap rather than an upstream API limitation — the same groupBy value applied to report endpoints the connector already calls. We would welcome correction if that reading is wrong.
We are happy to be a design partner or early tester for this, and available for a call if it would help scope the work.
Thanks,
Ovi
