Hide low-level connector configuration options from end users
Which connector?:

Additional details:
Context
While testing the connection setup flow, we identified a UX concern around the configuration options currently exposed to end users.
Problem
The connection setup surfaces several technical options that are confusing for non-technical end users (who make up the majority of our users):
-
Sync mode selection (e.g. "merge mode" vs "magic mode") — These are internal implementation details. End users have no way to understand what they mean or which one to choose.
-
Structured vs. unstructured sync — Outside of Fivetran's own context, this distinction isn't meaningful to end users. Whether or not unstructured files get synced is not a decision they should have to make. ( also applicable for salesforce structured connector with sync file)
From an end user's perspective, the only thing that matters is: "I've connected my Google Drive, and now I can see my data in 1mind." The internal mechanics of how the sync happens, and the shape the data takes, should not be their concern.
Proposed solution
- Restrict low-level sync configuration (sync mode, structured/unstructured options) to technical roles — engineers, API integration engineers, and solutions consultants — who set up the connection and understand the trade-offs.
- For these options, either:
- Configure them via API at connection setup time, or
- Infer sensible defaults automatically (e.g. from the destination).
- Present end users with a simplified flow focused only on connecting their source and confirming their data appears in 1mind.
Outcome
End users get a clean, self-explanatory connection experience, while the technical configuration stays in the hands of the people equipped to make those decisions.
