IBM-i Journal Rewind for many days is very slow and times out
AnsweredIf you try to run a rewind for 1 or 2 weeks back, HVR takes many days before it starts transferring data, and often times out the job, or is interrupted if the host machine goes down. Often the journals are archived and deleted after n-number of days on the IBM-i machine so there is a high risk of losing data if the tool does not start extracting records right away.
We are currently using HVR v6.2.5/9.

Hi Erlend,
This is also the behavior I would expect. There is a large amount of data to process, and the files are often stored on backup storage, which can be slower to access.
I am not sure there is much we can improve here. A rewind is typically an action you would run for a limited period, for example, a few hours or, at most, a day. What is your suggestion?
Best regards,
Edwin

There should be an easy fix for this. If HVR starts reading from the timestamp right away you will start fetching data in matter of seconds. Daniel Havasi confirming this in support request number: 365737 https://support.fivetran.com/hc/en-us/requests/365737

Hi Erlend,
Okay, we have created some engineering investigation tasks based on your request and the support ticket. It will probably take a couple of weeks until they are planned.
Best regards,
Edwin
