Enable syncing of empty columns from SharePoint Excel files to Snowflake
PlannedWhich connector?:
Sharepoint
Connector Name: fivetran_sdf_sensory
Additional details:
We are using the Fivetran SharePoint connector (connector name: fivetran_sdf_sensory) to ingest data from an Excel file stored in SharePoint into Snowflake.
Source file: FF_Sensory_2023to2025_RawData_Survey.xlsx
Affected column: SRP
In the source Excel file, the column SRP is defined as part of the sheet structure but currently contains no data values in any row. While all other columns from this file are successfully created and synced to the destination Snowflake table, the SRP column is not created in the target table because it has no values.
In our case, the column needs to be present in the destination schema even if it is fully empty, because:
- Downstream dbt models and views depend on the column’s existence
- The column is expected to receive values in the future
- Missing columns cause schema mismatches and downstream failures
We would like to request an enhancement that allows users to:
- Sync and create destination columns even when the source Excel/SharePoint column contains no data, or
- Configure the connector to include all columns defined in the source file schema regardless of whether they contain values
Could you please let us know if there is any supported or recommended way to force such empty columns to appear in the destination schema today? If not, we would like to formally raise this as a feature request.
Additional context
- Source: Excel file stored in SharePoint
- Connector: SharePoint
- Destination: Snowflake
- Current behavior: Columns with no data are skipped during schema creation

Hi Pula,
This feature—support for syncing empty columns from SharePoint Excel files to Snowflake—is currently available in private preview. If you are interested in early access, please reach out to your Fivetran account manager to request enrollment in the private preview program. Alternatively, I will follow up with you individually to provide more details on how to enable this for your connector.
We will post updates on this thread as we approach a broader/general release.
Thanks,
Parmeet
