Connector Improvement: Support PrivateLink via VPC Lattice / RAM Resource Share (no NLB required)

AWS added support last year for accessing VPC resources (such as RDS databases) over PrivateLink using VPC Lattice Resource Configurations and RAM Resource Shares, without requiring a Network Load Balancer or Lambda function to keep target IPs in sync.


With this approach, customers can:
  1. Create a VPC Lattice Resource Gateway in their VPC
  2. Create a Resource Configuration pointing to the RDS endpoint (DNS-based — AWS handles resolution natively)
  3. Create a Service Network and associate the resource to it
  4. Share the Service Network with Fivetran's AWS account via RAM

This eliminates the operational overhead of the current NLB + Lambda approach, where a Lambda must run on a schedule to resolve the RDS DNS hostname and update NLB target group registrations (since RDS IPs can change during failover/maintenance). VPC Lattice handles DNS resolution natively, so there's no drift risk between the NLB target and the actual RDS IP.

    which RDS database(s) are  would you want the support for?

    Also, which endpoint type are you after?

    • resource VPC endpoint for one resource
    • service network VPC endpoint for pooled resources via VPC Lattice

    We do have resource endpoints on our roadmap, and have done some work already to support the core endpoint type --- but overall the feature is currently in the mode of collecting customer requests for what sources (e.g. RDS postgres) to apply the capability to.
    We have a few projects ahead of this but are interested to do it. I'll update you here when we have a timeline, we're hoping to get to this in the 2nd half of the year, but that may change as priorities shift.
