Connector Improvement: New schema detected email notification alters for Schema Change Settings for SAP ERP on HANA Connector
AnsweredHi Team,
Can you add / enable "New schema detected" functionality to the SAP ERP on HANA connector to provide column-level change control and notification capabilities, similar to what's available for the Fivetran Platform Connector.

Business Problem:
Currently, the SAP ERP on HANA connector automatically adds new columns from the source system to destination tables without any notification. This creates significant operational challenges:
1. Unplanned Downstream Disruptions: Automatic schema changes sometimes break downstream data pipelines, dynamic tables, and analytics workflows without warning
2. Lack of Change Visibility: No proactive notification when source schema modifications occur
3. Operational Risk: Production data processes fail unexpectedly due to unannounced structural changes
4. Manual Monitoring Overhead: Teams must manually monitor log tables to detect schema changes after they've already caused issues
Enabling this option for Email notifications when new columns are detected in source tables with detailed change information including table name, column name, and data type.
With this we would rather know about changes ahead of time and would save us a lot of trouble beforehand to fix any impacting pipeline and align with how we manage changes in production.

Hi Himanshu,
Thanks for the suggestion — it does sound like a valuable enhancement of the SAP Functionality. We still need to investigate how well this functionality would fit within the connector and the broader database infrastructure at Fivetran. I’ll keep you updated as we learn more.
Best regards,
Edwin
