Connector Improvement: HVR - sql server as source
AnsweredFor sql server sources, fivetran can read log backups on local machine or shared drive. I would request a feature to allow reading log backups on cloud storage as well

Hi Safoora,
Great suggestion. In fact, this is something we want to enable in the not too distant future. Would you have the backups in SQL Server's native format on block storage (e.g. ADLS)?
Please note that for Fivetran's new binary log reader for SQL Server we recently build support for log backups on cloud storage. Would you consider using the managed service? And/or would you mind clarifying why you want this in HVR?
Thank you,
Mark. -
I will check with dba on below question and let you know "Would you have the backups in SQL Server's native format on block storage (e.g. ADLS)?".
Please share more details about 'Fivetran's new binary log reader for SQL Server' and how the same works. Will it allow replicate from always on secondary node and read log backups only in case the online logs are already truncated?
We need this in HVR as for one of the live channels, online tlogs are available only for one hour, if there is delay in data sync due to network issues etc then dba has to manually download logs from cloud storage to a drive on database server for the data replication to resume back.

Could you please share tentative dates for the feature to be available in HVR?

In the best case I expect this for Fivetran early calendar year 2026. Note this feature is not yet currently scheduled.
Thank you,
Mark.
