Connector Improvement: Sync Column Descriptions from AS400 to Snowflake

I’m currently using Fivetran to replicate data from our AS400 (Db2 for i) source system to Snowflake. While the data and schema sync work great, I’ve noticed that column descriptions are not being transferred to Snowflake as column comments.

For us, these descriptions are crucial for data understanding and downstream documentation, especially given the volume of tables we're managing.

  • Is there any plan to support syncing column descriptions/comments from AS400 to Snowflake in the future?

  • If not, could this be considered as a feature request?

    This is a valuable idea. I've added the request to our feature improvements backlog.


    To better understand your needs, could you share more about how column descriptions are used in your data workflows, and what specific challenges you're facing without them in Snowflake? Insights into your downstream documentation or governance use cases would be helpful as well.
