Connector Improvement: Shopify - Collection - Add product position as column
The Shopify API returns collections with an implicit position. The product position in the collection is the same as the position on the website. If Shopify returns a collection like this:
[
{"product_id": 934, "created_at" : "2023-01-01"},
{"product_id": 239, "created_at" : "2021-01-01"},
{"product_id": 942, "created_at" : "2023-02-01"},
{"product_id": 779, "created_at" : "2022-09-01"}
]
That means that the product 934 is first in the collection, 239 is second, so on and so forth.
We would like the Fivetran connector to include the implicit position in the collection_product table. For the example above, assuming collection_id 1, it would look something like this:
- collection_id, product_id, position
- 1,934,1
- 1,239,2
- 1,942,3
- 1,779,4
This will allow us to perform analytics on the product position on the page. E.g., what is the typical conversion rate for a product in the first position, the second position, etc.? How much uplift in conversion could you expect from moving a product from the 10th position to the 1st?
