How To: Steps to change the database user's password for the HVR Hub repository
Scenario
Database passwords generally need to be changed periodically due to corporate security policies. HVR stores database user's password in the HVR repository for both connections to database locations, as well as to the HVR repository itself. When the user's password is reset, there are procedures that need to be followed to properly reset the hub and restore replication services.
Overview
When changing the database user's password, you need to restart the various processes which use those connection details to authenticate the user. This includes changing the user's password to the Hub repository, changes to locations, recreating the Hub Scheduler service, and restarting scheduled jobs.
Steps:
The following are steps for:
- Change the password to the hub repository database
- Change the password to the database location
Here are the procedural steps when changing the user's password to the Hub repository:
Step 1] Launch the HVR Console
Step 2] Connect to the Hub
Step 3] Suspend all scheduled jobs
A] Right click on Scheduler
B] Select All Jobs in System
C] Select Suspend
Step 4] For Hubs on Windows only: Destroy the Scheduler Service
A] Right click on Scheduler
B] Select Properties
C] Select Stop to stop the scheduler service
D] Select Destroy to remove the Windows Scheduler service
E] Click Close
Step 5] Disconnect from the Hub
Step 6] Change the user's password in Hub repository database
Step 7] Launch the HVR Console
Step 8] Connect to the Hub
A] The user is prompted with a dialog to change the password
Step 9] For Hubs on Windows only: Recreate the Scheduler Service
A] Right click on Scheduler
B] Select Properties
C] Select Create to add the Windows Scheduler service
Step 10] Start all scheduled jobs as needed
Here are the procedural steps when changing the user's password for a database location:
Step 1] Launch the HVR Console
Step 2] Connect to the Hub
Step 3] Change the user's password in the database
Step 4] Edit the user's password for the database location
A] Test the connection
Step 5] Suspend all scheduled jobs
Step 6] Reload the hub
Step 7] Initialize any channel definition using that database location
A] Select the location which had the password reset and select only "Scripts and Jobs" from the Advanced Options tab
Step 8] Start all scheduled jobs as needed
