You plan to use the Google Analytics (GA) connector, but would like to establish what metrics and dimensions are required before you create the connector.
With Fivetran, to ensure that the data you’re receiving is reliable, we require that you create an entirely new GA connector when updating metrics or dimensions. Therefore, you must either:
- Name this new/modified report something different than the previous version
- Keep the name of the new/modified report and sync it into a different schema
This can become time consuming when you are not yet sure on the combination required.
In order to reduce time spent on configuring and running connectors to come up with the right combination of metrics and dimensions, Fivetran recommends:
- Using the Google Analytics Query Explorer Tool to validate those combinations before configuring a connector
The Fivetran GA data is delivered in a cube, therefore changing the way that the cube is formatted is difficult; adding in (or removing) fields changes the way the data is aggregated and synced.
This would require that we alter the data in your existing warehouse to ensure consistency.
